New Xbox 720 Details Surface

As a lot of gamers are aware, Microsoft is working on a new Xbox to replace the Xbox 360. Now, however, new details have emerged about the system due to a few “partners” releasing information.

While a few recent news stories have debunked that the Xbox 720 will contain a Blu-Ray player, these “partners” confirm the converse. Additionally, several sources have confirmed that the console will have two GPU’s. According to one unnamed source, “It’s like two PC’s taped together.” Outside of the knowledge of dual GPU’s, it has been rumored that they will be similar to AMD’s 7000 series. It is also known that they will not work like most dual-GPU systems, and are able to work independently.

There will be “four or six” cores to the CPU, one of which is saved for the Kinect, and the other for the operating system. Additionally, the 720 will require an always-on Internet connection, presumably for anti-piracy protection.

Interestingly, the next generation Kinect will be built into the system as a standard option, allowing for more functionality and less clutter. Finally, sources confirmed that the Xbox 720 is scheduled for release by the 2013 holidays (right on par with the recent PlayStation Orbis’ planned release date).

Unfortunately, Microsoft is not set to officially unveil specifications about the system until sometime in 2013, so until then we will have to trust the “partners” word on things.
